Investigating Officer Ayub Ali said that RU student Nazmus Sakib was detained from Debiganj town on February 22, 2016 (Monday). “He is being questioned over the killing”, he said that.
Meanwhile, three other suspects, who were arrested between February 21 and February 22, have been remanded by a Panchagarh court. Police pleaded for a 20-day remand but the court granted 15 days, said Public Prosecutor Aminur Rahman.
The three, who were sent to police custody, were identified as Khalilur Rahman, Babul Hossain and Jahangir Hossain. Police claimed two of them were JMB activists while the other was affiliated to the Jaamat-e-Islami’s student wing.
On February 21, assailants slit the throat of 50-year-old Jagneshwar Roy, head priest of Santo Gaurio temple, after hacking him with sharp weapons.
